Bruges, often called “The Venice of the North” is one of the most beautiful cities
in Europe, and we spend our Sunday here. It is a world heritage site and with its
ancient canals, streets and buildings feels like a medieval city. We take the short
trip back to Calais in the evening, board our boat, and reach London about 10pm,
tired and happy!
Please note: on this trip we don’t use the train because travel times are pretty
similar but on a coach we are able to see much more and visit many more interesting
places! So the trip is much better and costs much less! Everyone always enjoys this
great trip!

On Saturday morning, when Amsterdam sleeps, you have the choice of staying in the
city, or taking a short trip to a traditional cheese farm to see Gouda being made,
with a visit the lovely wooden fishing village of Volendam, where there are lots
of interesting seaside shops, and where the inhabitants still tend to wear traditional
Dutch dress. We are back in the early afternoon with plenty of time to explore the
rest of Amsterdam.
Meet 06:15 at Shortlands, Hammersmith for departure exactly 10 minutes later.
We cannot wait for latecomers at all as we have to catch the ferry from Dover.
There are no long journeys, just a short hop to Dover, across by SeaFrance ferry
to Calais in France, along the Belgian coast, and after a break or two for refreshments,
we soon reach Amsterdam, where we get settled into our pleasant self-catering accommodation.
Travel details:
London - Dover: about 1 hour 30 minutes.
Dover - Calais by boat : just over 1 hour.
Calais - Amsterdam: 3.5 hours, with pleasant breaks.
Friday in Amsterdam is lively and exciting! Amsterdam is an eccentric and traditional
city with very modern ideas and very friendly people. You can cycle round, take a
canal boat trip, visit the Van Goch and Rembrandt Museums, the renowned Sex Museum,
pop into a famous ‘brown bar’ for great Dutch beers, enjoy the alternative culture,
see the unique Red Light district ...and spend the evening in a very friendly pub
where you can meet the locals, and dance, sing and thoroughly enjoy yourselves!
